John Prine Tribute

John Prine
October 10, 1946 – April 7, 2020

We have lost one of our greatest songwriters to COVID-19, and it fills me with sadness to think of all the John Prine songs that will not be written.

I wish I had never used the word "unique" before just so that I could use it now for the first time to describe his extraordinary gifts.  He captured our essential humanity, with our endless foolishness as well as humble dignity, and he did it all without a trace of judgment or mean-spiritedness.

Revered by the likes of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, and a million other songwriters across genres who have tried to "tell the truth and make it rhyme", Prine has inspired us all to be more fearless and more kind-hearted.

Thank you, John Prine, for telling us the truth about ourselves with both honesty and tenderness -- you will be deeply missed.
